Description

For your consideration is this large and impressive cold painted spelter figure of a female outstretched and kneeling on a stepped wedged shaped alabaster base. Standing over 35 cm high and 32 cm in width this is a large heavy piece and perfect focal point to a room. Although unsigned she's undoubtedly by Josef Lorenzl, c1930. Condition is very good, clock is fully working. The alabaster base has some signs of damage to one end by way of a hairline crack and the odd scuff but generally the base is very presentable and nothing that distracts. The figure itself is without damage or repair and has minimal signs of wear only what one would expect.
Josef Lorenzl (1892 - 1950 Vienna)
A famous bronze sculptor in the Art Deco period, Josef Lorenzl worked from the early part of the 20th Century and started his career at a foundry in the Vienna Arsenal where he learned the techniques of bronze casting. Here Lorenzl designed bronze and chryselephantine figurines and also works in spelter.
