Description

This is a great pair of original oil paintings on canvas after Sir Edwin Landseer’s monkey business and the cat’s paw. They are beautifully painted by an unknown artist as they are not signed, both date from the late 19th century. Monkey Business shows a cat I assume borrowing money from a monkey. The cat’s paw shows the monkey holding the cat’s paw to the fire, I assume he did not pay his debts. Both are oils painted onto canvas and are framed in more modern gilt frames, the cat’s paw has an old gallery label to the reverse. The slightly larger of the two is 30cm x 22cm
Condition.

The condition is generally good. Monkey business has a stretcher mark to the canvas and it has sagged slightly. Both have quite a reflective varnish and there is some craquelure.
