Artist Biography
Joy Barnes was born in 1912, daughter of the eminent psychologist Professor Spearman. She studied at the Chelsea School of Art under Henry Moore and Graham Sutherland. She continued her studies in Munich focusing on commercial art. In 1936 she started working for Service Advertising Agency producing advertising art work for many high end retailers and manufacturers. After the war she moved to Somerset and founded the Bruton Art Society. Joy is still alive and painting today aged 100.

This is an original advert design for Bradleys of Chepstow Place promoting the store, most likely to be used as a newspaper advert. The painting is ink and ink wash to create a very attractive image of an art Deco lady looking in the mirror.
