Hand Carved Wooden Ainu Bear Japanese 1950s Hokkaido

Description
A wonderful, carved, wooden bear from the Hokkaido region. Hand carved by the Ainu people, exceptional, good quality carving. This bear has a wonderful realism to it, the bear looks as though he is turning to walk away. He demeanour is almost demur, with a wonderful kind face, that looks almost to be smiling.The shape and carving to the bear are exceptional, the finish is dry rather than highly polished.
Signed to the underside by the carver and dated 1959.
