Description

A fine quality large Victorian coromandel jewellery box by W.Leuchars, 38&39 Picadllly, London.

The superb coromandel veneers edged in brass, the top with engraved brass cartouche. The box has been re-lined in a black cotton moire fabric and complimentary stone grey plush velvet, the lift-out tray revealing a further storage area beneath, the bottom drawer also re-lined.

With brass makers plaque to the back of the box and both locks stamped.

The box has two locks, the upper lock is a Leuchars patent 'fake' lock. The key does not open this lock (it is for the drawer below). The box is simply opened by rotating the escutcheon slightly to the right which releases the lid. Both mechanisms in working order.
