A rare and fine quality WWI period leather and brass pickelhaube from the Portugal National Republican Guard.
The spectacular brass state shield of Portugal to the front. Decorated with spears and swags in foliage. The ball finial to the crown spike, above a decorated brass plate. Brass decorated rib to the lobster tail. Retaining its original interior and chin strap.
The Portuguese army joined the Entente powers in WWI with 50,000 men in 1917.
