Description

A wonderfully characterful mid-20th-century fairground strength tester, constructed in painted timber and retaining its original hand-painted decoration and mechanism.

This tall, freestanding piece was originally used as a traditional test-your-strength game, where a weighted striker would be driven upward along the central track toward the bell at the top. The front is richly decorated in bold red and yellow with scrolling foliate motifs and a charming cartoon mouse figure to the crest, giving it strong period fairground presence and instant visual impact. The surface shows honest wear, paint loss, and knocks throughout, entirely consistent with decades of use in travelling fairs and amusement grounds.

Today, this piece works beautifully as a decorative object rather than a functional game, ideal for retail displays, film and theatre sets, bars, events, or as a statement feature in a private interior.
