Description

A particularly good 30 hour, single hand, hook & spike lantern clock by John Baker of Sevenoaks.
The brass face with brass spandrels being clearly signed.

In excellent original condition & running well.
The heavy bronze bell chiming 'pitch perfect' on the hour.
There are several references to John Baker, flourishing in circa 1735.

The face of this clock is a style that is typical of clocks made by Baker, a similar one also used on a later longcase clock by John Baker.

Michael Pearson lists John Baker in his book 'Kent clockmakers and watchmakers'
Furthermore Brian Loomes lists John Baker of Sevenoaks as working in Sevenoaks from early to late in the eighteenth century in his book 'Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world’

The bell has a wonderful tone and is fairly loud & clear. I have successfully reduced the level of the ring by using self adhesive baize which can be removed easily.

The quality of this most robust movement gives me no fear in shipping the clock, of course, being professionally packaged.

Depending on location the clock may be delivered by hand or by premium courier.

I have a video of the clock working which can be seen by request

This clock is offered at a very competitive price.
