Description

A lovely pair of silver tablespoons by the well known London female silversmith Elizabeth Eaton. They are of Celtic Point pattern with a clear hallmark for London 1855. They have been engraved with the crest of the 'Ayrshire Rifles' and retailed through David Crichton Rait of Buchanan Street, Glasgow. Originally a volunteer unit, the 'Ayrshire Rifles' were one of a number formed in response to the threat of French invasion. In 1881 they became part of a volunteer battalion of the 'Royal Scots Fusiliers'. These spoons are from a private collection of regimental silver. They are 22.3cm in length. They are in excellent condition.
