Description

Nice quality late 19th century Khanjar ceremonial knife, c1880. Originating from either Persia or Morocco (the design and construction is very similar in both areas) ,this is a highly decorated example , functional but principally a prestige / status piece for display. It has the typical long curved sweeping blade and both sides of the scabbard and handle are decorated in different styles and materials to reflect the skill of the maker. One side of the scabbard is constructed in silver coloured metal with complex decoration and the other side is decorated in brass. The handle also has silver and brass sides with what appears to be inserts of horn or wood. Overall condition is good in line with age and use.
