Description

Rare early 20th century African bronze fertility staff or wand,c1920. Most likely from the Yoruba tribal area this is a well cast piece with male and female statues at both ends of the staff signifying the joining of the two. Undoubtedly a ceremonial piece this would have been used in rituals to help ensure fertility in new couples or those struggling to have children. The bronze has aged well with great colour/patina .Overall condition is good ,there is a small crack in the metal by one head ,very minor and most probably originating from the original casting process as the lost wax process often results in small losses etc.
