Description

Rare 19th century Australian Aboriginal/First Nation sword,c1880. Sometimes referred to as 'Baghol baghol' they are typically found in the rain forest areas of North Queensland . I have been collecting for over 40 years and have not seen one previously in the UK ,although I know an example is held in the British Museum (Museum number Oc1886,1015.3). This example is of very typical form with a wide blade tapering towards the end, gum handle/grip and one side more convex than the other. There is slight damage to the tip as shown in the photographs but this in no way detracts from the beauty of this piece. Indeed it is clearly old damage so may well have resulted from use in anger. A beautiful piece which would grace any collection of tribal art. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to view the item.
