Description

Lovely mid 19th century Church / Chapel collection box, c1850. It has a real homemade/folk art look and comprises an oak box surrounded with a bespoke iron security frame, probably made by the local blacksmith. The metal frame is secured with on old (possibly original) padlock with working key. The box has a lockable end panel but at some point, either because a key was lost, or the door was forced the metal frame was added to provide additional security. The wood has taken on great colour/patina following years of use. Overall condition is good with no obvious defects and only very minor surface wear in line with age and use.
