19th Cent Mahogany Longcase Long Case Clock

Description

A handsome longcase clock by D Gaite of Shepton Mallet, Somerset. He is listed as working there from 1840 to 1850. He was a member of a family making clocks there from the 1740's

The case is in beautifuly figured mahogany, it has some decorative inlay and particularly attractive carved decoration to the hood.

The good quality 8 day movement strikes the hour on a bell and has a most attractive and unusual painted dial. It has a black surround decorated with fruit and a very clear convex centre with subsidiary seconds and date dials.

The case is in excelent condition and is a good colour.

The movement is nice and clean, in good condition and keeping good time.

The maximum dimensions are:
