West persia, circa 1870s. Quite an early bijar kelleh as they are referred to. Ideal for an entrance hall or larger room. Has a wide main border of stylised leaves and flower heads,very attractive overall design with animals dotted about. Primarily madder red and blue with yellow,ivory and greens. Large size to. It has some minor condition issues namely an 8cm tear to left side edge,small freyed hole,minor end losses. All imaged. Restored this carpet could be 10-15k. It is extremely heavy as bijar carpets are known as ''iron rugs'' because of the way the weft threads are hammered down tightly being more in the density of the weave thus making it twice as heavy.
