5 foot 8 inches by 4 foot 8 inches. 174cm x 143cm. At widest points. All woollen hand knotted construction. Fars region,south west persia,first quarter 20th century. In this thoroughly charming tribal weaving featuring a central one way design of a stylised tree of life running through the centre on the dark blue/black and dark turquoise field colour with two pairs of peacocks hiding amongst the stylised branches. To each zig-zag corner quadrant are further peacocks inside each and joined top and bottom by a flower stem and stylised leaf shoots. Has dark turquoise,yellow,rose pink and blues among other colours used with an ivory ground central border of rosettes and angular motifs. It is interesting to note the rug is slightly wider at the bottom end a typical feature in portable nomadic and village ground looms. All ends and sides expertly secured with even low pile.
