Fascinating archaic antique caucasian kuba rug. 156cm x 115cm. North east caucasus,early 20th century. A fascinating kuba rug with a design that harkens back to the so called dragon and bird rugs of the 17th century. The weaver has certainly made improvisations of the overall design with a virtual free hand as most of it is non symmetrical which is what makes it quite unique and fascinating. A rug which would certainly be in my personal collection if it wasn't for the fact I can't keep everything! Other attributes of kuba rugs are the dark blue quadruple side cord overcasts and the soumak type flat woven ends. Has a harvey nichols retailers label to rear which was comfortably used between 1904-1910. Hand washed,de-dusted,ends secured. Very slight wear to side cords. Even pile. Plenty of very detailed images. Sensibly priced at £900 gbp. Size is just over 5 foot 1 inches by 3 foot 9 inches. 156cm x 115cm. At widest points. Minor fringes not measured in size. U. K post £16.
