Lovely Edwardian era arts and crafts copper tray by the celebrated Newlyn school c.1900. 13" diameter circular tray with a typical impressed or repoussé work design of fish and shells in a border around the edge. Raised edge with pierced and impressed detail and joined with expressed rivets. Clearly stamped for Newlyn in two places on the front and once on the rear. With minor wear to the surface of the tray and the raised edge is slightly misshapen in places. Otherwise very good original condition.
Dimensions: diameter 13″, height 3″.
The Newlyn Industrial Class was founded in 1890 by John Drew Mackenzie to create alternative employment for the fishermen of Newlyn in Cornwall. For thirty tears they produced a range decorative homeware, most in copper, with repoussé designs featuring mainly nautical and seaside motifs.
