Description

Extremely rare Roman bronze striggil with makers mark and name, the name set within the shape of a Bone.
Normally in sets of 3 - small, medium and large, this being the smaller. The rear showing a pattern of lines and the patination is very reminiscent of being found near water?
Recently from a UK individual who had collected for years - size 21.5cm including the curved blade and 1.3cm at it's widest.

Usage: Athletes would apply oil before exercise, using the strigil to scrape away the oil, dirt, and sweat afterward.
Design: A curved, spoon-like blade with a handle, often hammered from a single piece of metal (bronze or sometimes iron).
