Original English Modernist BBC studio armchairs by Serge Chermayeff, c.1931–32. Tubular steel cantilever design with black Rexine upholstery. Manufactured by Cox and Co Circa 1935.
A stylish pair of English Art Deco BBC studio chairs, designed by Serge Chermayeff for use in the new BBC Broadcasting House studios, 1931–32. These modernist cantilever chairs feature chromium-plated tubular steel frames and original black Rexine upholstery.

Manufactured in England by Cox & Co (M52 armchair), with the same model also sold by PEL without the distinctive flared arm rests (SP9 armchair). These chairs are excellent examples of early 1930s modernist design, combining functionality with the clean geometric lines typical of the Art Deco period.

Condition:

Very good original condition.
Chrome shows minor scuffs and scratches consistent with age.
Original upholstery has minor marks one chair has lost its Sac cloth platform, revealing the bent plywood seat underneath (only visible from below).
Overall, these are superb original examples of studio seating from this era.
