17th cent.oil on canvas portrait of Cardinal Marcello Santacroce.23" x 20"
Giltwood ripple frame.
Relined with restorations confined to red cloak.
Marcello Santacroce (1619-1674) was elevated to cardinal in 1652 by Pope Innocent 10th.He participated in the Papal Conclaves of 1655 and 1669/70.
He served as Bishop of Tivoli.
He came from a family of cardinals.An uncle elevated in 1629 and a nephew in 1699.
