Description

Fine quality, large, early 19th century French Empire period figural mantel clock depicting Harpocrates the Greek/Roman god of silence and secrecy. Often depicted as a youth with his finger to his mouth, his cult was popular throughout the Roman Empire. White enamelled dial with Breguet style hands signed by 'Lesieur Hr a Paris' the horolger and 'Vacher Boul'd. Italien' the bronzier. Eight day silk suspension movement. Beautiful example, well cast and chiselled with both matt and burnished gilt bronze finishes. France, circa 1815.
