Description

Good 17th century Flemish carved and moulded oak book press of imposing design. All the press except for the screw is made of oak. There is a drawer to the front which is all oak lined with probably replacement knob. The press stands on turned ebonised feet.

The caved oak part at the bottom of the thread where it joins the top has AN NO carved on one side and 1677 carved on the other side.

There are two pairs (4 in total) of boards to put between the books which are probably later 19th century.

This is a very nice piece of early Flemish oak that was almost white when we bought it due to languishing in an out building for many years. It has been sympathetically revived and waxed several times and is now taking on a beautiful patination that will only improve with more waxing.
