Description

This is an attractive Edwardian Cut Glass Dressing Table Pot with a Sterling Silver lid. The pot is sarcophagus shaped with all round hobnail cut decoration and a star cut in the base. The oblong lid is plain along the top with a scroll and flower edging and is gilded on the underside. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The lid is hallmarked for Mitchell Bosley & Co of Birmingham and dates to 1907. Mitchell Bosley were active between around 1890 and 1910 producing mostly small items of a personal nature, including many lids for dressing table pots of all shapes and sizes.

Condition is very good with no chips or cracks in the glass pot and just a couple of tiny dings in the silver lid. Nothing you wouldn't expect after 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The pot is 9.5cm / 3.7ins long by 4.3cm / 1.7ins wide and stands 3.1cm / 1.2ins high. The silver lid by itself weighs 9.1g / 0.32oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together the pot weighs 137.1g / 4.8oz.

The hallmarks on the lid are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter h for 1907 and the M B makers' mark for Mitchell Bosley & Co.
