Description

This is an attractive George III Sterling Silver Cream Jug of broadly square shape. It has a broad lip, a flat top handle and a band of engraved foliate decoration above a band of scalloped square panels. There is a blank oval cartouche on the front of the vase surrounded by a laurel wreath.

Unfortunately the makers' mark has been rubbed away by long years of polishing and it is not possible to identify the silversmith.

Condition is generally good with just a couple of tiny dings and a shallow bruise to one side of the body. It remains perfectly usable today or would make a fine addition to a collection. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The jug is 12cm / 4.7ins from lip to handle, 7cm / 2.7ins across and stands 9.2cm / 3.6ins high. It weighs in at a substantial 128.1g / 4.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the front of the jug below the lip are somewhat rubbed but can still be read, with the exception of the makers' mark of which only a ghost remains. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter I for 1804 and the George III duty mark.

Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the jug.
