Description

This is a very distinguished looking set of six Victorian Sterling Silver Teaspoons. The stem of each teaspoon is surmounted by scrollwork, a shield and a lion finial. The shields are blank, making these ideal as a gift.

The set of teaspoons is made in Sheffield by John Round & Son and date to 1894, with one spoon dated for 1895. John Round established his business in 1847 in a small workshop attached to his house and was later joined by his son Edwin. The firm was bought by Joseph Rodgers & Sons in the mid-1930s.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 130 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each teaspoon is 11.1cm / 4.4ins long and the set of six together weighs in at a very respectable 79.3g / 2.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the undersides of the stems are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter b for 1894 or c for 1895 and the distinctive J R in an oval makers' mark for John Round & Son.
