Description

This is a smart George V Sterling Silver Mustard Pot with its original Blue Glass Liner. The pot stands on four bun feet and has a pierced band around the body featuring a fleur-de-lys motif. The thumb rest is shell shaped and it has a flat top handle. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The mustard pot is made in Birmingham by Docker & Burn and dates to 1921. Founded around 1920, Docker & Burn operated from the Sterling Works in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter, primarily making tableware, through the 1920s and 1930s.

Condition is good, with just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 100 years of good service. The blue glass liner has no chips or cracks and slides in and out smoothly. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The mustard pot is 7.3cm / 2.9ins from rim to handle, 4.3cm / 1.7ins across and 4.4cm / 1.7ins high. Without the glass liner it weighs in at a respectable 38.7g / 1.3oz of solid Sterling Silver and all together it weighs 71.3g / 2.5oz.

The hallmarks on the underside of the base are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter w for 1921 and the D & B makers' mark for Docker & Burn. In addition, the inside of the lid is marked with the lion passant and date letter w.
