Description

This is a smart George V Sterling Silver Tea Caddy in a classic cylindrical form. The caddy has line decoration around the top and bottom rims of the body and the top and bottom rims of the lid. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The tea caddy is made in London by famous silversmiths Charles Boyton & Son and dates to 1912. Charles Boyton founded the business in the mid 1820s. The firm passed through several generations of Charles Boytons, becoming Charles Boyton & Son in 1894. The family lost control of the business in the 1930s, although the company carried on under the Boyton name until the 1970s. Their pre-1930s work is renowned for its style and quality.

Condition is generally good with just a couple of bruises to the cylindrical body and the superficial surface wear that you would expect after 110 years of faithful service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The tea caddy stands 9cm / 3.5ins high and is 6.8cm / 2.7ins in diameter. It weighs in at a substantial 91.3g / 3.2oz of solid Sterling Silver.

Both the body and the lid are fully hallmarked, with the makers' marks being a little rubbed but still readable. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter r for 1912 and the C B & S in a trefoil makers' mark for Charles Boyton & Son.

Shipping in the UK is £11 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the tea caddy.
