Description

This is a good quality cased set of six George V Sterling Silver Teaspoons in the revived Hanoverian pattern. These spoons have a distinctive rib down the length of the stem, an upturned end to the stem and a long rat tail along the underside of the bowl. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The spoons are made in Sheffield by silversmiths John Round & Son and date to 1924. Founded around 1874, the firm made a wide range of silverware but are best known for their good quality spoons and flatware. They remained in business up until the late 1930s.

Condition is extremely good, with no dings or dents and just the bare minimum of superficial surface wear that has to be expected after nearly 100 years of good service. The box is a little scuffed on the outside and some of the silk lining in the lid has frayed but the hinges and the clasp are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each spoon is 11.1cm / 4.4ins long and the set of six together, unboxed, weighs in at a substantial 94.8g / 3.3oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the undersides of the stems are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter g for 1924 and the distinctive JR in an oval makers' mark for John Round & Son.
