Description

This is a good size and fine quality American Mid-Century Silver Plated Coffee Pot. The pot is in the classic pear shape on a pedestal base with a long spout rising from the bottom of the body, an elegant scroll handle and scroll decoration around the rim of the base. The handle has insulating discs so that it remains cool when the pot contains hot coffee.

The coffee pot is made in New York by the National Silver Co and dates to around the 1950s/60s. Founded by Samuel Barnstein in 1890, the firm had become the National Silver Company by 1904. They had a British subsidiary in Sheffield up until about 1950. They made both good quality silver plate and fine Sterling silverware.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and no significant plate loss. There is some staining to the inside of the pot at the bottom, which suggests that it has been used for making tea rather than serving coffee for some of its life. This could be cleaned if desired. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The coffee pot is 23cm / 9ins from spout to handle, 11cm / 4.3ins across at its widest point and stands 25cm / 9.8ins high. It weighs in at 1.04kg / 36.8oz.

The underside of the base is stamped with the National logo and Silver on Copper to show that it is silver plated onto a copper base metal.
