Description

This is a George V Sterling Silver Jam Spoon in the classic Old English pattern. The spoon has the traditional broad leaf shaped bowl that is commonly found on jam spoons. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The spoon is made in Birmingham by A.J. Bailey and dates to 1931. Founded in the 1890s, A.J. Bailey, later A.J. Bailey & Son, were a very successful silversmith operating out of Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. They promarily produced flatware and tableware and remained in business until the late 1970s.

Condition is good, with just a very slight ding to the tip of the spoon plus the surface wear that you would expect after 90 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The jam spoon is 11.5cm / 4.5ins long and weighs a respectable 11.4g / 0.4oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter G for 1931 and the A.J.B makers' mark for A.J. Bailey.
