Description

This is a good quality small George V Sterling Silver Four Slice Toast Rack. The rack has an oblong base with arched dividers and a leaf shaped finger ring handle. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The toast rack is made in Sheffield by renowned silversmiths Atkin Brothers and dates to 1917. Atkin Brothers were a hugely successful firm who traced their origins back to the silversmith Thomas Law around 1750. Henry Atkin joined the firm in 1824, they became Atkin Brothers in 1853 and then remained in business for another 100 years until 1958.

Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and just the superficial wear you would expect after 105 years of good service. It sits without rocking on a flat surface. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The toast rack is 7cm / 2.7ins long, 4.4cm / 1.7ins wide and stands 8cm / 3.1ins high. It weighs a respectable 41.9g / 1.48oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of one cross bar, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the Gothic date letter z for 1917 and the HA makers' mark for Harry Atkin of Atkin Brothers.
