Description

This is a good quality Cased Set of Six Art Deco Sterling Silver Grapefruit Spoons. The spoons have a sharp point and fluted bowls and are decorated with a grapefruit motif at the top of the stems. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The spoons are made in Birmingham by Purcell Brothers and date to the height of the Art Deco era in 1933. Purcell Brothers were specialist spoon and flatware makers operating in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter throughout the 1930s.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 90 years of use. The outside of the box is a little scuffed and faded but the inside is in good condition and the hinges and clasps are in full working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each spoon is 13.9cm / 5.5ins long and the set of six together, uncased, weighs in at a very substantial 128.2g / 4.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stems, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter J for 1933 and the P.Bros makers' mark for Purcell Brothers.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the spoons.
