Description

This is a good quality Edwardian Sterling Silver Four Slice Arched Toast Rack. The toast rack is on an oblong base with four bun feet, high arched dividers and an arched handle.

The toast rack is a well made piece in a good heavy gauge of silver by W.G. Keight & Co of Birmingham and dates to 1906. Founded in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter in the early 1880s, the firm made a wide range of personal and household silverware up until around 1910.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just a very slight rock when placed on a flat surface plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 115 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The toast rack is 9.7cm / 3.8ins long, 7cm / 2.7ins wide and stands 11cm / 4.3ins high. It weighs in at a very substantial 142.9g / 5oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on one end of the toast rack are clear to read apart from the makers' mark, which is somewhat rubbed but still decipherable. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter g for 1906 and the W.G.K makers' mark for W.G. Keight & Co.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the toast rack.
