Description

This is a very striking cased set of six Art Deco Silver Plated Cake Forks. The forks are in the classic design with two normal tines and the third tine broadened to make a blade for cutting the cake. They have Art Deco Odeon style decoration down the stems and blank cartouches at the top with no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The cake forks are made in Sheffield by George Lee & Co and date to around the 1930s. They have a registered design number for 1933/34.

Whilst the box is most certainly for cake forks, these forks are not a perfect fit and it is probably not the original box they were supplied in. It does however do a job of keeping them together and means they tarnish much more slowly.

Condition of the cake forks is very good with no dings, dents or plate loss and just the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 80 years of good service. The box is a little scuffed but the hinges and clasp are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each fork is 12.3cm / 4.8ins long and the set of six together weighs in at 86.8g / 3oz.

The underside of the stems are marked G.L. & Co for George Lee & Co and EPNS for silver plate along with the registered design number 787919, which dates the original design to 1933/34.
