Burnell and Rowe

Description

This is a charming Victorian Silver Plated Tobacco Pouch. The pouch is oval in shape and curved to fit comfortably into a pocket. It has a hinged lid and is elegantly engraved with the name J H Wingfield and the date 1885.

There are no makers' marks or origin marks of any kind that we have been able to find but we do believe it is English.

Condition is generally good with the exception of the hinge, which has one part missing. It still opens and closes with the remaining half of the hinge but it needs to be done with care. A small piece of iron has been inserted on the inside of the lid, perhaps to strengthen it following the damage to the hinge or perhaps to balance it. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The tobacco pouch is 7.7cm / 3ins long, 4.6cm / 1.8ins wide and 1.8cm / 0.7ins high. It weighs in at 47.3g / 1.7oz.
