Description

Here we have a very stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Coffee Spoon from the 1930s. The spoon has a round bowl, a slender stem and a distinctive triangular finial. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The spoon is made in Birmingham by silversmiths Marson & Jones and dates to the height of the Art Deco era in 1933. Marson & Jones were active in Birmingham's famous Jewellery Quarter between 1915 and the start of the Second World War and unsurprisingly much of their output is in an Art Deco style.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after nearly 90 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The coffee spoon is 9.5cm / 3.7ins long and weighs in at a respectable 8.8g / 0.31oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the bowl, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter J for 1933 and the M & J in conjoined circles makers' mark for Marson & Jones.
