Description

Here we have a very attractive Victorian Sterling Silver Napkin Ring in the Aesthetic style. The napkin ring is round with a scalloped rim at top and bottom. The body is decorated all around with beautifully engraved flowers and foliage to either side of a blank shield shaped cartouche, making this ideal as a gift item or a great addition to a collection.

The napkin ring is made in London by George Heath and dates to 1883. Not much is known about George Heath who appears to have been active for quite a short period in the 1880s. His mark is most commonly seen on smoking related items but he also produced a few items of tableware such as this napkin ring.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the minimal superficial surface wear that you would expect after nearly 140 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The napkin ring is a good size, being 4.4cm / 1.7ins in diameter and standing 2.8cm / 1.1ins high. It weighs a respectable 19.5g / 0.69oz of solid Sterling Silver but it is the decoration that really makes this a special item.

The hallmarks, on the opposite side to the cartouche, are nice and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter H for 1883, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the G.H makers' mark for George Heath.
