Description

This is a good quality pair of George III Sterling Silver Teaspoons in the traditional Fiddle pattern. The spoons have the initials S H S engraved at the top of the stem in late 18th / early 19th century style.

The teaspoons were made by the partnership of Thomas Wallis (II) and Jonathan Hayne in London and date to 1811. Thomas Wallis' father, also Thomas Wallis, began the firm around 1758, with Thomas Wallis (II) taking over around 1777 and later going into partnership with Jonathan Hayne around 1810. Hayne later took over the business and his son Samuel after him.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just a small amount of wear to the tip of one of the spoons from much stirring of teacups! Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each spoon is 13.3cm / 5.2ins long and the pair together weigh a very respectable 33.8g / 1.2oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are a little rubbed but still clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter Q for 1811, the George III duty mark and the TW over JH makers' mark for Thomas Wallis (II) and Jonathan Hayne.
