Description

This is a smart cased set of six George V Sterling Silver Teaspoons with barley twist stems and cube finials. The spoons have a letter S elegantly engraved on the front of the finials.

The teaspoons are made in Sheffield by Cooper Brothers & Sons and date to 1927. Founded in 1866, Cooper Brothers & Sons were one of the most successful Sheffield flatware and cutlery makers, remaining in business until the early 1980s when they taken over by Frank Cobb & Co.

Condition is very good, with no dings or dents and just one miniscule nick on the bowl of one teaspoon plus the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 90 years of good service. The outside of the box is a little scuffed but the hinges and clasp are both in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each spoon is 11.3cm / 4.4ins long and the set of six together, unboxed, weighs in at a substantial 84g / 2.9oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the bowls are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter k for 1927 and the distinctive C B & S in a shield makers' mark for Cooper Brothers & Sons. In addition there is a registered design number of 691155, which dates the original design of the teaspoons to 1922/23.
