Description

This is a charming Indian Silver Pepper Shaker from the British Raj period in the early 20th century. The shaker is spherical with all over foliate engraving and stands on three paw feet. It opens with a simple pin and slot mechanism around the middle for refilling or cleaning.

Like nearly all Indian silver, this is an unmarked piece. However the combination of the intricate foliate engraving and the three lion's paw feet means that it is almost certainly from the Lucknow region in Northern India.

There are a couple of very shallow dings in the upper part of the pepper shaker, which is made of thinner silver than the base but apart from that condition is good. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The pepper shaker is 4cm / 1.6ins high and 3.5cm / 1.4ins in diameter across the middle. It weighs a respectable 25.3g / 0.9oz of solid silver.
