Description

This is a very stylish Art Deco Sterling Silver Pepper Shaker. The shaker has a round foot, a tall tapering body and a round caster lid with a neat turned finial.

The pepper shaker is made by world famous silversmiths Walker & Hall and assayed in London in 1938. Walker & Hall was founded by George Walker in 1845 with Henry Hall joining in 1853. They were one of the most successful English silversmiths until they were finally absorbed into British Silverware with Mappin & Webb and Elkington & Co in 1963.

Condition is very good with just a small amount of salt marking around where the body joins the foot along with the superficial surface wear that has to be expected after this length of time. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The pepper shaker stands 7.8cm / 3.1ins high and is 3.9cm / 1.5ins in diameter at its widest point. It weighs a respectable 34g / 1.2oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the upper part of the body are a little rubbed through polishing but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the leopard's head assay mark for London, the date letter C for 1938 and the W & H makers' mark for Walker & Hall.
