Description

This is a good early George III Sterling Silver Sauce Ladle in the classic Old English pattern. The ladle has the initials PG elegantly engraved at the top of the stem.

The spoon is made in London in 1777 but sadly there is nothing more than a ghost of a makers' mark so we are unable to give any information about who made it.

Condition is generally good with just a couple of flat spots on the bowl and the superficial surface wear that can only be expected after over 240 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The sauce ladle is 17.9cm / 7ins long and weighs a very respectable 47.6g / 1.7oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are a little distorted, as you would expect from this period when the silver was marked before it's final forming into the item, but they are still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crowned leopard's head assay mark for London and the date letter b for 1777.
