Description

This is a distinctive George V Sterling Silver low footed Tazza. The round shallow dish stands on a pedestal foot and there are scroll handles on either side of the bowl. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The tazza is made in Birmingham by renowned silversmiths William Hutton & Sons Ltd and dates to 1934. Originally established by William Hutton in Birmingham around 1800. they moved to Sheffield in the 1830s but later acquired an additional premises back in Birmingham as well as a London showroom. The company ceased trading in the 1930s, being taken over by James Dixon & Sons.

Condition is good with just a couple of truly tiny dings and a slight flattening of the foot at one point. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The tazza is 10.1cm / 4ins in diameter, 13.6cm / 5.4ins from handle to handle and stands 5.5cm / 2.2ins high. It weighs a substantial 86.8g / 3.06oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the lower part of the body, are a little rubbed but still easy to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter K for 1934 and the distinctive W H & Ss Ld makers' mark for William Hutton & Sons Ltd.
