Description
Here we have a George III Scottish Sterling Silver Teaspoon in the traditional Old English pattern. The initials MMc are elegantly engraved at the top of the stem. The teaspoon is made in Paisley by William Hannay and assayed in Edinburgh in 1812. William Hannay was a specialist spoon maker active between the mid-1790s and the mid-1820s. His early pieces have provincial Paisley marks, then he began to send his items to Edinburgh and from 1819 his work went to the new Glasgow assay office.
There is a small ding in the bowl of the spoon but apart from that there is only the superficial surface wear that you would expect after over 200 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.
The teaspoon is 13cm / 5.1ins long and weighs a respectable 12.3g / 0.43oz of solid Sterling Silver.
The hallmarks, on the underside of the stem, are clear to read. They show the thistle for Edinburgh Sterling Silver, the Edinburgh date letter g for 1812, the George III duty mark and the WH makers' mark for William Hannay.
Shipping in the UK is £4 by Royal Mail 1st Class Signed For.
