Description

This is an attractive cased set of six George VI Sterling Silver Teaspoons in a flower & thread pattern. The stems are double struck with a thread down the edges of the stem, whilst the front of the spoons have an oval flower motif at the top. There are no initials or personalisation of any kind.

The spoons are made in Birmingham by William Suckling Ltd and date to just after the Second World War in 1947. Silver was still in short supply at this point and pieces from the 1940s are much rarer than those from the thirties and fifties.

Condition is very good with no dings or dents and just the most minimal of superficial surface wear, rather less than you would expect after nearly 75 years of good service. The box is in nice condition with just a little foxing to the satin lining of the lid. The hinges and clasps are in good working order. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

Each spoon is 9.6cm / 3.8ins long and the set of 6, unboxed, weighs in at a respectable 56.5g / 2oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks, on the underside of the stems, are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the anchor assay mark for Birmingham, the date letter X for 1947 and the S Ld in conjoined circles makers' mark for William Suckling Ltd.
