Description

This is a fine set of four George III Sterling Silver Teaspoons in the traditional Old English pattern. The spoons have the initials M.Mc elegantly engraved at the top of the spoons.

The spoons are made in London by Peter & William Bateman and date to 1811. Peter was the son of the famous Hester Bateman and William was Peter's nephew. The Bateman family dominated silver flatware production in the late 18th and early 19th century and their work is widely collected.

Condition is good with just the minimal wear that you have to expect after 210 years of use. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoons are each 13.1cm / 9.1ins long and the set of four together weighs in at a respectable 51.7g / 1.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stems are well struck and very clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter Q for 1811, the George III duty mark and the PB over WB makers' mark for Peter & William Bateman.
