Description

Here we have a very elegant small George V Sterling Silver Tazza. The dish has a round base with a gadrooned rim, a reeded disc part way up the stem and the saucer like bowl also has a gadrooned rim. The curling handles are decorated with lion masks. The centre of the saucer has the initials C & B or B & C as an engraved monogram, so this was probably originally a wedding or anniversary gift.

The tazza is made in Sheffield by the renowned silversmiths James Dixon & Sons and dates to 1921. James Dixon & Sons were a hugely successful firm who were in business from around 1806 up until the 1980s. There are particularly well known for their association with Dr Christopher Dresser in the late 19th century.

Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and just the most minimal superficial surface wear that has to be expected after 100 years. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The tazza is 10.2cm / 4ins in diameter across the rim, 13cm / 5.1ins wide from handle to handle and stands 8.3cm / 3.2ins high to the top of the handles. It weighs a substantial 108.8g / 3.8oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the bowl of the tazza are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the crown assay mark for Sheffield, the date letter d for 1921 and the J.D & S makers' mark for James Dixon & Sons.

Shipping in the UK is £10 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, which includes cover for the value of the tazza.
