This is a good quality pair of Victorian Sterling Silver Teaspoons in the classic Fiddle Pattern. The spoons have a letter elegantly engraved at the top of the stem but the style makes it a little hard to be certain which letter it is. We think possibly a C or a G.

The teaspoons are made in Exeter by John Stone and date to 1850. John Stone was a specialist Exeter spoon maker who was active in the heart of the city between around 1825 and 1860. He died in 1868. His spoons are of consistently good quality and Exeter silver is always sought after.

Condition is very good with just the minimal wear and tear that you would expect after 170 years of good service. Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoons are each 14.2cm / 5.6ins long and the pair together weigh in at a significant 43g / 1.5oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are well struck and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the three towered wall assay mark for Exeter, the Gothic date letter O for 1850, the Queen Victoria duty mark and the JS makers' mark for John Stone.
