Description

This is a good quality George III Sterling Silver Salt Spoon in the traditional Old English pattern. There is a set of initials at the top of the stem, which have become quite rubbed over the years but we think are JN in elegant script.

The spoon is made in London by Thomas Wallis (II) and dates to 1796. Thomas Wallis (II) was originally an apprentice to his father Thomas Wallis (I) and inherited the business after his father's death around 1778. He remained active up until around 1810.

Condition is extremely good with no dings or dents and only the absolute minimum of surface wear that you would expect after 225 years. This spoon has clearly been well looked after! Please make sure to view all the photographs.

The spoon is 10.2cm / 4ins long and weighs a respectable 9.0g / 0.32oz of solid Sterling Silver.

The hallmarks on the underside of the stem are very crisp and clear to read. They show the lion passant for Sterling Silver, the London date letter A for 1796, the George III duty mark and the script style TW makers' mark for Thomas Wallis (II).
